Heroes Center

Located in High Point, NC The Heroes Center is a non-profit organization whose mission is to serve, support, and strengthen student veterans with programs, services, events, and resources. The Heroes Center is currently undergoing renovations to provide housing to student veterans attending, or wanting to attend, Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC). 14% of GTCC veterans surveyed last fall, said "they were homeless or in need of housing during their time at GTCC."

The Sustainability Resource Center is partnering with the Heroes Center to design, develop, and implement community supported indoor and outdoor agriculture and agrifarm areas.

The first two primary area of focus will be:

  • The repurposing of 6 small buildings at the Center property for year round indoor growing of specialty crops. These grow systems and crops will be used for education, resident consumption, workforce development and to promote nutritional benefits and entrepreneurship. Crops such as mushrooms, wasabi, hops, saffron, and Swiss chard will be included.

  • The development of a three acre area as an urban farm with in-ground planting of herbs, vegetables, fruits, pollinator flowers, and urban fruit trees.

We are excited about this project that will provide sustainable food resources to the residents of the Heroes Center and surrounding communities.
